Subjective
Reality
08.24.00
The Matrix.
See it. Believe in it. Live it.
Not all the crap about this being a different year and machines have taken
over and reality is just a program, but everything about us being able to bend
the rules... and break some of them.
That movie had a profound effect on me. I was in a shitty way when I saw that
movie the first time, and it reminded me of a LOT of things that I once believed,
having lost them only to hurt from other situations. The biggest reminder came
in the form of remembering that the world around is created by something outside
of us... all the rules are created by men interpreting their power given by nature.
The truth is, as I see it, that while nature is more powerful than man could
ever be, so we must abide by her rules, no man is truly more personally powerful
than me, so I'm free to break most of man's rules, proving him wrong in all too
many cases.
Simply... sometimes, the rules just don't apply to me. To us. If you believe.
Believe and all things are possible. That's the first step. I think Henry Ford
said, "Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right."
So if you don't believe that you can break the rules of life that someone, somewhere
convinced you to be true... you're forever enslaved to them.
Every system has rules set up. They've created their own reality. Try to change
their reality and you will be faced with nonbelievers saying "you can't get away
with that. That's against the rules." But all it takes is one man to start a
change. And if you get away with something, another will too. Until the system
has changed. And reality has changed.
Because reality is subjective. It's a definition of the norm. When more men get
together and combine their perception of reality to overcome yours, their rules
will apply. Example... kill someone, get caught, go to jail. No matter how much
I think I can get away with killing someone, there is a VERY good chance that "reality" is
going to destroy my belief and lock me away.
That's when "insanity" kicks in. But that too is subjective. To the rest of the
world, Farmer Ted, who saw a spaceship land and turn his cows inside out, is
insane. Spaceships don't exist. The cows are just gone, not inside out. He imagined
it. He was drunk. Or just plain crazy.
But what if it DID happen? His reality is that E.T. zapped his herd. Our reality
is that it's not possible. So maybe it did, but there's no proof. And we're all "insane" and
he's not.
But that's not how the system works, is it? We're the norm, so we decide that
we are sane and he is not. And that's that. No matter what the truth is. No matter
what Reality is.
The point? Reality is subjective. Perception is reality. But outside of one person,
Reality is defined by collective perceptions. It's all a matter of whose perception,
and influence, is stronger.
What about magic? Not the illusions performed by Penn and Teller, Sigfreid and
Roy, or the CIA (making real people disappear every day). Real magic. Scoff if
you must, cheer if you want... but if magic was so impossible, why would so many
people practice it. It's a Christian practice to damn and banish anyone involved
with magic. When you grow up, you're convinced that magic doesn't REALLY exist
like you thought it did. And so, once you're happily satisfied that magic isn't
real... so it's not. Not in your reality.
But to so many others who believe, who have not stopped believing, magic, and
many other things you've given up on, still exist. That is their reality.
Of course, there are some things, like nature's rules that are completely objective.
You can't change them. Whether you believe or not, they still exist. But our
power comes from the subjective viewing of those rules and all those made by
man. This comes up in thoughts of Truth as well.
Reality is defined by the masses and defied by rebels. Reality is what you make
of it.
Remember, it wasn't so long ago that reality meant the world was flat.
